How Can We Help?

7. References

References are a mandatory part of the application process. Your application cannot proceed without successful verification of your work history.

What are the primary requirements for professional references?
We require comprehensive references to confirm your experience and suitability for the care sector:

  • Time frame: We must receive a minimum of one professional reference obtained within the last two years (24 months).
  • Sector Relevance: This reference must specifically detail work within the UK care sector, working with children and/or vulnerable adults.
  • Work History: Where possible, we aim to collect additional references that cover your employment history from the preceding five years.

What types of professional references are accepted?
We accept professional references from the following sources, preferably from the Owner, Manager, or Deputy Manager:

  • Early Years settings, Registered childminders
  • Educational settings, After-school clubs, Holiday camps.
  • Retirement homes, Nursing homes, Dementia care facilities, and other care homes.
  • For references provided by families who directly employed you as a carer (private placements), we require supporting documentation such as your employment contract or proof of PAYE registration.
  • A representative from a formal agency or online platform you have previously worked for in a care role.

What specific details must be included in a professional reference?
All professional references must provide the following verified details:

  • The start date and end date of the employment.
  • A brief description of the duties the carer was responsible for.
  • The reason for leaving that position.
  • Confirmation of whether there were any substantiated safeguarding concerns/allegations that meet the harm threshold or issues with their conduct.

What happens if I cannot provide the required references?
Please note: Candidates who are unable to provide the required references cannot proceed with their application.
