If you are thinking of joining Hello Mums as a childcarer first of all you should take a look at our website and social media pages to make sure you like our ethos, values and culture. It will also allow you to get a first impression and to help you decide if we are the right business for you. As childcare in the UK is a huge sector, it is important that you know that most of our work is providing you with job opportunities on a temporary basis in nurseries across London. So if you are after daytime flexible work in the early years sector and you like our company then you should register.

What paperwork do I need to register with Hello Mums?
At Hello Mums, our priority is the children's safety and well being. In order to achieve that we need each of our childcarers to have some crucial paperwork in order to take jobs. Before your first job we will need to have seen and checked the following paperwork:

Right to work visa and share code
Unless you are a British or Irish citizen you will need a work visa. You will have to supply us with the work visa and a Government share code, so we can check your visa status.

Enhanced, Clean DBS
You will need to have an up to date enhanced check with barred lists from the Disclosure and Barring Service, if you want to look after children for a living.
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) carries out enhanced checks with barred lists on anyone working with children, to make sure the children are safe. DBS checks usually take about 6 weeks. At the end you will get a certificate which you must keep safe.
In case you currently do not have this type of DBS we recommend that you use Little Beans Nanny Agency's DBS service - currently it costs £85 to apply for the enhanced DBS check with them.

DBS Update service
We recommend that as soon as your DBS arrives you register for the DBS Update Service.
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Update Service allows:

  • applicants to keep their DBS certificates up to date
  • employers to check a DBS certificate
  • It costs £16 per year and you can pay by debit or credit card.
You will need your application reference number (called ‘form ref’ on your application form) and DBS must receive your application form within 28 days. This means that you have only 28 days to apply for the Update Service after you receive your new DBS.

Valid Proof of Identity
To gain access to online services you must provide valid proof of identity. Remember, you must be aged 19 years or over to join Hello Mums.
Acceptable personal identification documents include:

  • Current UK (Channel Islands, Isle of Man, or Irish) passport or EU/other nationalities passport
  • Passports of non-EU nationals, containing UK stamps, a visa, or a UK residence permit showing the immigration status of the holder in the UK
  • A national ID card 

Two Childcare Related Work References
A good reference can help a job-seeker stand out from the competition in any field. But in child care, solid references are essential. We will ask you to provide the contact details of at least two references in a form, and we will get in touch with them to ask them some questions. 

A minimum of one reference must be obtained from the candidate's employment in the UK within the last 24 months, where the candidate worked in a private or professional setting with children (e.g., nursery, school, childminder) for a minimum of two months, with at least 20 hours per week. At least one of the references should be from the last 24 months.
Whenever possible, we collect additional references from the last five years of employment. These references are recorded in our system. .

Candidates without references will not be able to proceed with their application.

  • Your Position
  • The ages of the child(ren) in your care
  • Your duties
  • The length and date of employment
